Direct Answer
Amazon payouts are highly netted. You must record Gross Sales based on the GSTR-1/B2C reports. Then, record Amazon Seller Fees, Shipping, TCS (Section 52), and TDS (Section 194O) as deductions. The net of these should match your bi-weekly bank deposit.
The E-Commerce Challenge
An Amazon seller might sell Rs 10 Lakhs of goods, but only receive Rs 6 Lakhs in the bank due to FBA fees, advertising, returns, and statutory tax deductions.
Month-End Accounting
- Gross Revenue: Book the exact sales figure reported to GST.
- Expenses: Book Amazon's tax invoice for commission and logistics as an expense (and claim the GST ITC).
- TCS & TDS: Record the 1% TCS (GST) and 1% TDS (Income Tax) as assets on your balance sheet, as these can be claimed as cash credits during return filing.
- Reconciliation: The clearing account should tie exactly to the NEFT credit received from Amazon Pay India Pvt Ltd.
